Oneyda's Story
Oneyda never got to go to school. Her stepfather said girls didn’t need to study. Now she’s a struggling mom, unable to read or write, abandoned by her husband when their baby was one year old. There are days Oneyda only eats tortillas with salt so her son Yefri can have a meal. Moms like Oneyda and their children are being crushed by poverty, and by traditions that tell women: “You don’t matter.” Will you help change that? What happens when you give a mom a chance?
Rosa dreamed of being able to provide for her children and giving them a different future. But she had no resources to start a business.
Then, someone kind like you gave her a hand up. Rosa joined one of our women’s savings and entrepreneurship groups. She got a loan to buy a sewing machine. She taught herself to make woven products. Her business flourished. Now she runs a phone-accessories shop too!
Rosa says her businesses are giving her children “a better quality of life and better educational opportunities.” And she’s training other women to empower themselves too.
